Erykah Badu: Uncut...& Exposed

Erykah Badu released her new video titled "Window Seat". There in her home town, Texas. Badu walks the streets, stripping herself of her clothing, only to end up naked and shot to death in the exact spot where the late President John F. Kennedy was assassin... pretty intense huh? According to the artist, the footage is real, the people's reactions are real, one camera, one take, then they ran like hell. Anyone that is familiar with Badu's artistry knows it serves purpose. So make sure you listen to the message in the song and apply it to the visual....once you get your eyes off her butt.

The Art of Propaganda

Fahamu Pecou is an Atlanta based artist who explores the world of contemporary propaganda. Through his art work he addresses the images of the black male and African American culture in the current music industry. Pecou states on his website "...thinking through the process of media propaganda brought me to my current work with magazine covers. Magazines are the embodiment of the psychology behind marketing and advertising."

Audio Art: Mos Def "Umi Says"

One of the most inspiring songs that graced my CD collection is Mos Def's "Umi says". You'd think after four years I'd be sick of this song or find something better to listen to.But time and time again, Mos Def's music has proven to be timeless. When I hear this song I can't help but to close my eyes and allow the melody and lyrics to embrace my soul. Certified classic people..."Umi Says"

Do U Know Gary Go?

Talk about a breath of fresh air, take a listen to this gentlemen by the name of Gary Go. This England native debuted his self titled album in August of 2009. Go debut on the Billboard's Top 200 at #153, but was #22 on Billboard's Digital Albums. But get this, many major stores don't carry his album so thanks to online music stores like iTunes, Rhapsody, and Amazon you can get to know Gary Go.

I love the concept of this video...simple yet innovative.

The Resurrection of the Fiasco

OK I've admire the artistry of Lupe Fiasco since his rap debut in Kanye West's "Touch the Sky" leading to his album debut "Food & Liquor", which I consider to be a classic album. This month he released a new song called "Resurrection" featuring Kenna and Mike Shinoda. This video is spirit moving, capturing the heart of Haiti's struggle by captivating photography and aspiring cinematography. If you're not moved by this video you must be hollow inside.

Note: If you live in the Detroit area Lupe will be performing at the Royal Oak Music Theatre with special guest B.O.B on April 14th, 2010....google for other locations and dates.

Broken Home

Last week I was driving on the streets of Detroit and I saw this old abandon house decorated with broken mirrors, splashes of paint, fence wires, tin buckets, bricks and....well just allot of stuff. I thought it was amazing. I thought who would take the time out to turn an old run down house in to a ball of eclectic funk. I had to stop my car and take pictures...check it out.

Greetings to All

Greetings and salutations. Welcome to the blog known as "The Vessel". The purpose of this blog is to display various dimensions of art...whether its music, fashion, home decor, cuisine, photography, paintings, movies, amazing scenery, advertising, etc....the possibilities are endless.

A good friend once said to me "Art does not belong to anybody...its universal...we are only vessels." At that moment I was inspired to create this page and showcase the many vessels out there. So I feel its my purpose and duty to share with the world what inspires me to be great and most importantly inspire others as well.
